Want to upgrade from Windows 95 to Windows 98
Second Edition? Here's how
- First, when you upgrade your computer
to a new operating system, always save your important files to
floppy disks. These files include your documents as well as
Internet Explorer bookmarks, your address book, and e-mail
messages. If you have files that are too large to fit on floppy
disks, you can send those files to a friend or colleague via
e-mail for safekeeping during the upgrade.
- Next, check how much space you have on
your hard drive. Microsoft™ Windows™ 98 Second Edition requires between 120 and 295
megabytes (MB) of storage. (195 MB is typical.)
- Close all your Windows 95 programs, including your
anti-virus program. Closing your antivirus program during
installation is especially important because Windows 98
Second Edition needs to alter your system files, which is precisely
what your antivirus program is supposed to prevent.
- The Setup wizard prompts you during the
installation process; you simply need to follow the directions
as they appear. The Setup wizard also tells you how much
time remains.
- After you install Windows 98 Second Edition, you might
find your desktop background is either blank, black, or blue.
Don't worry. You can find your old wallpaper (or something new
that you like) by clicking on the Start menu, Settings, Control
Panel, Display, and Background.
